Early Childhood Education

Responding to the Commonwealth’s Strategic Priorities on Education, addressing the Achievement Gap:  Improve educational success in struggling schools in high poverty communities and expand access to quality early education for all children, the University of Virginia supports this strategic priority through its leadership, education, outreach and research, in effective teaching and learning to advance the quality and impact of teaching in Early Childhood Education.  Through its work with the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program and its Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL), the University of Virginia is playing a vital role in informing public policy and funding decisions in early childhood education as well as work related to the implementation of a full-scale, statewide comprehensive readiness assessment, transforming Virginia’s existing State Preschool Program into a national exemplar.
